What to Expect from the Treatment

IPL treatments are quick, comfortable, and require minimal downtime. During the session, light energy is absorbed by the hair follicle, weakening it over time. You may experience a mild warming sensation, similar to a flick of an elastic band, but most clients find the treatment easily tolerable. After several sessions, hair growth will reduce significantly, leading to long-lasting smooth skin.

Before Your Treatment:

✔ Avoid sun exposure and tanning (including fake tan) for at least 2 weeks before treatment.

✔ Shave the treatment area 24 hours prior – but do not wax, pluck, or thread.

✔ Avoid using skincare products with retinol or acids on the area a few days before.

After Your Treatment:

✔ Apply SPF daily and avoid direct sun exposure to protect your skin.

✔ Keep the treated area cool and avoid hot showers, saunas, or strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours.

✔ Moisturise the skin and avoid harsh skincare products for a few days.

✔ Do not wax or pluck between sessions – shaving is fine if needed.

What is IPL?

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is an advanced, non-invasive treatment designed for long-term hair reduction. By targeting hair follicles with pulses of light, IPL disrupts the hair growth cycle, leading to finer, slower regrowth. Unlike shaving or waxing, IPL offers a more permanent solution, leaving your skin smoother for longer.

Who is it for?

IPL hair reduction is ideal for anyone looking for a long-term alternative to shaving, waxing, or epilating. It works best on individuals with darker hair and lighter skin, as the light energy is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. However, advancements in IPL technology mean that more skin and hair types can now benefit. Not sure if IPL is right for you? Book a consultation to find out!

Who is IPL Not Suitable For?

While IPL is a highly effective hair reduction treatment, it may not be suitable for everyone. You should avoid IPL if you:

❌ Have very light blonde, grey, red, or white hair – IPL relies on pigment in the hair follicle to absorb light energy, so it may not be effective on very fair hair.

❌ Have very dark skin (Black, afro carribean skin types, fitz IV) – Darker skin tones have more melanin, which increases the risk of burns or pigmentation changes.

❌ Are pregnant or breastfeeding – Hormonal changes can affect hair growth, and IPL has not been tested for safety during pregnancy.

❌ Have a recent tan or sunburn – IPL should not be performed on tanned or sunburned skin due to increased sensitivity and risk of damage.

❌ Are taking photosensitive medications – Some medications (e.g., certain antibiotics, acne treatments, or steroids) can make your skin more sensitive to light.

❌ Have active skin conditions – If you have eczema, psoriasis, severe acne, or open wounds in the treatment area, IPL may not be recommended.

❌ Have a history of keloid scarring or skin conditions triggered by light – If you are prone to excessive scarring or have conditions like lupus, IPL may not be safe.
